Due to the popularity of clay pigeon shooting at Winton, the shooting grounds are being extended this spring so that we can offer shooting days during the week to larger corporate groups, to more small groups, shooting clubs and even individuals.

In November 2008 further exciting additions are planned to make Winton, just half an hour from Edinburgh, one of the best places to shoot clays in Scotland.

We believe we also provide some of the best clay shooting tuition anywhere in Scotland. Winton’s clay pigeon shooting is under the expert tuition of Billy Gordon, 22 times Scottish clay pigeon champion. Billy, a local, East Lothian man, has also been British clay pigeon champion twice and Irish champion on two occasions. Billy is a natural tutor and both novices and experienced guns quickly benefit from his sharp eye.

“The new stands are in mature woodland in addition to the existing more open area next to Sir David’s Loch. This makes the shooting much more realistic, more like game shooting,” says Billy Gordon.

Winton’s clay pigeon stands range from the Pigeon Pair, Whistling Woodcock and Running Rabbit, to the High Pheasant, Towering Teal and Settling Duck. The clays at each of these stands can be adjusted to provide both easy and challenging shots to develop and test shooting techniques.

For groups of between 10 and 20, the format is flexible; typical options include 3 to 5 stands over a 2-3 hour period, or a full day with lunch, starting with some practice shots, then into competition mode. Prizes at Winton range from bottles of whisky to private shooting lessons!

For the big company day out, much larger groups of 40 or more can easily be catered for.
