Winton House lies close to the village of Pencaitland in East Lothian, 14 miles south-east of the centre of Edinburgh and close to the A1 and central Scotland's motorway network. In the days of little motor traffic, it was possible to hear the one o'clock gun from Edinburgh Castle! Today's visitors can be in the city centre in less than thirty minutes.

 

Driving directions

From Edinburgh, the North and West:

Follow City By-pass (A720) to the A1 (south). Turn off at Tranent. Follow the road through Tranent (pass the kids’ playpark), then turn left on the outskirts of Tranent along the B6355 towards Pencaitland. Follow the road through New Winton. You will see the north entrance to Winton House on the right on a sharp corner.

Please note that all coaches, lorries and commercial vehicles should continue along the road for about 800m to the coach entrance (east entrance) on the right.

Cottage and Wintonhill Farmhouse
Visitors heading to Wintonhill Farmhouse should continue past the north entrance for about 400m, then Wintonhill is next on the left.

Visitors heading to Winton Cottage should turn down the coach entrance (east entrance) then take the first turning on the right.

From the South and East:

Pencaitland is signposted from Haddington, the A1 and the A68. Winton House is just off the north east side of Pencaitland. Cars can turn left into the south entrance for Winton House just before the outskirts of the village. Coaches should continue to the outskirts of Pencaitland, turn left onto the B6355 towards Tranent, then turn left into the coach entrance (east entrance).
